Our Story
Hey y’all!
I'm Meredith McCrea Whetsell — the artist, designer, and owner of Seven Hills Stationery. This is a little bit about me, the philosophy behind Seven Hills Stationery, and how we came to be. Thanks for being here!
The Art-and Artist-Behind Every Piece
Every card, notepad, and gift you find here begins the same way: with a piece of my original art. My paintings are full of movement, texture, and color, reflecting the vibrancy, complexity, and ever-changing nature of life. The original work is the foundation of every paper good we sell.
I am a proud graduate of Wake Forest University and have worked professionally in the arts, education, and fundraising sectors. I am married to my very funny and endlessly supportive husband, Stuart, and together we share two children, a wayward Beagle/Border Collie mutt, and two very opinionated cats.
We are deeply fortunate to split time between Lynchburg, VA, my hometown, and Pawleys Islands, SC.
How SHS Came To Be
Seven Hills Stationery grew out of a simple love — for art, for the written word, and for the way a beautifully designed object can elevate the everyday experience. I have been selling my original art since 2021 and am proud that my works bring beauty, uniqueness, and vibrance to the homes of my collectors. The modern world can feel heavy, making it difficult to find joy and beauty amid the daily challenges we all face. I wanted to find a way to bring the joy of art to my clients in a way that feels accessible — not only financially, but also practically. Something you can hold in your hands. Something you can send to someone you love. Something that reminds you of the richness and beauty of life.
The name of the business is an homage to the city in which I was born and raised, and after many years of living in other places, eventually came home to; the place where I now raise my children and am lucky to still have extended family.
Palette to Paper: How the Process Works
Each design starts as an original painting- created in my home studio. My style is textured, layered, and abstract and I most often paint in rich, deeply pigmented hues. From there, I photograph the artwork in varied lighting to truly capture its unique coloring and texture. I then design each stationery piece and color-match the design accents to complement the hues in the painting. The designs are then professionally printed onto premium papers, bringing the beauty and joy of art to a new medium.
Throughout the process I choose every material with intention and specificity. I want every piece of Seven Hills Stationery to feel as good as it looks — a quality piece that is sturdy enough to write on, but beautiful enough to keep.
